FAQs
Will you bill my insurance?
1
We don’t bill insurance. We want you to know how much to budget each month, so you pay a direct monthly membership fee to the office (between $125 for individuals and $300 for families). This covers all your care with Dr. Kessler.
How do I pay for labs or imaging?
2
You have two options for labs and imaging. You can choose whether you pay at the discounted cash-pay rate, which is often available at a fraction of what it would cost even with your insurance, or we can order it with a traditional requisition form and have it billed through your insurance.
Do you take Medicare patients?
3
Unfortunately, we can’t see Medicare patients at this time because we are not allowed to bill Medicare patients through a Direct Primary Care model. If you are a Medicare patient interested in joining the practice, please sign up for the waitlist here. As soon we are able to take Medicare patients, we will reach out to you.
Who is eligible for a Pair or Family membership?
4
A Pair Membership could be a parent and child, a married (or long-term partnered) couple, or two children from the same family. Family Memberships can include up to two adults and their children (age 0-25). If you have a blended family or questions about whether you are eligible for a family membership, please reach out to Dr. Kessler directly.
What is Family Medicine?
5
Family Medicine is a medical specialty that trains physicians to be generalists who are skilled at taking care of the entire family and meeting their complex medical needs within the community. Family doctors see patients of all ages in clinic, are trained in women’s health, office procedures, and often hospital medicine and prenatal care. To be board-certified in Family Medicine, your doctor must complete medical school, licensing exams, a 3-4 year Family Medicine residency program after medical school, and pass Family Medicine board exams through the ABFM. Both MDs and DOs can be Family Medicine physicians.
What if I have an HMO plan?
6
Some HMO plans limit who can order labs, imaging, and referrals. If you plan to use an HMO plan to cover these expenses, reach out to your insurance directly to find out if an out of network provider can order these for you.
Do I still need health insurance?
7
Your membership with Front Porch DPC is NOT insurance. We strongly recommend that you have some form of financial plan lined up in case of a severe medical emergency. Options for this include traditional insurance models and health shares. However, we are happy to see you even if you don’t have access to insurance.
Can I use my HSA to pay for my membership?
8
Yes, as of January 1, 2026, you are allowed to use your HSA (Health Savings Account) contribution to pay for your Direct Primary Care membership!
Can I count my membership toward my insurance deductible?
9
Yes, you should submit your membership receipts to your health insurance company to apply it toward your insurance deductible.
What if I know the Kessler-Burkes socially? Can I still be a patient?
10
Yes, we are happy to take care of our neighbors. Connor and I trained in a small town in Oregon, where we often knew our patients as friends, neighbors, or coworkers. I am experienced at keeping care professional and confidential.
